self-care tip: try something new
When you're learning something new, you're expected to make mistakes.

I encourage all of you to do something new.
Especially if it’s something that you’ve always wanted to do. Whether it be learning to paint, trying a new game, or going vegan. It’s scary to try something that’s different, but how else will you know if you don’t enjoy it or not?
Last month, I finally unboxed my surfskate from Penny Skateboard, and I’m actually in love with this thing. I’ve always wanted to learn how to skateboard, and I thought that a pennyboard would be suitable for me since I’m a short ass person.
Boy, it was freaking dang hard. I bought it back in college, and after all these years, I still couldn’t figure it out. I even thought that I would finally learn during the pandemic, and I STILL didn’t make time for it.
I can’t remember how I learned about surfskating, but it immediately caught my attention and said to myself that this might be better for me. And the fact that it is supposed to emulate similar movements for surfing, I figured kill two birds with one stone.
Because the mechanic of this board is more “sensitive” when I slightly lean back, I actually feel so much more comfortable with it. I’m terrified every time when I lean too far and then I eat pavement, but that’s the beauty of learning how to skateboard, right?
When you're learning something new, you're expected to make mistakes. Unless you're a natural, you're expected to fumble, ask questions, and get hurt along the way. Sure, it's scary, but it's the only way to try and see if you really like it.
So go out and learn something new.
Get out of your comfort zone, make all the mistakes, and just keep going. As long as it brings you joy, then you’re already on your way to improving your mind, your body, and yourself.
